A downloadable game for Windows

Half-Hour Hero is a unique take on the RPG genre, inspired by the 8-bit and 16-bit classics from SquareSoft and Enix.

In this game, the player is thrust into the tail end of an epic RPG adventure. Every character is already level 99 from off-screen grinding, no player management necessary.

After defeating the final boss, the player is treated to a new perspective as they explore the NPC's village. Questions such as how the heroes' adventure affected the local economy are tackled.

 ☆ Title Screen & OST 1

▪️First impression was the music of the title screen. Felt refreshing to my ears in that it felt melancholy, yet nostaglic. Can already feel the wear and tear of the "hero". Good loop as well.

▪️The title screen felt in tune with the image of the two demonic figures and the starry skies/space. Fits the theme of "time".

━━━

 ☆ Introduction Story

▪️The story is ambitious and blending in different inspirations at least from my POV. It is intriguing and sets a solid tone to the story of the heroes.

▪️I do wish I was able to control the story at my own pace instead of it auto-playing, but that is a small nitpick.

━━━

☆ Start / Optional NPCs

▪️The music is very vibrant in the initial cutscene with hints of melancholy throughout. A good welcome to the world.

▪️I enjoy being thrown into a middle of a living story, which elevates tension. Another small nitpick is that I do wish I could see the characters on the screen while they are talking to better bond with them.

▪️I think the NPC in the beginning are fun and help illustrate more of the world without it being forced. For example, seeing Hanzo wanting to party with the dancer, but being denied help already set the image of the companion.

▪️Another example of optional NPCs showing some more of the main cast personality is with Bushi and calling some of them wench. Tsk tsk.

▪️I enjoy how the NPCs dialogue and the treasure chests you can open align. Makes it feel more realistic in that sense.

 ▪️Wuffy best NPC.

▪️Small nitpick is that I do wish that each NPC or at least the main cast had colored text for easier time to follow the dialogue so I can get more engrossed into the world.

━━━

 ☆ Battle & Outside Town

▪️Random encounters are to be expected, but hope future iteration can have more like a Chrono Trigger sort of monster encounter!

▪️I imagined there was no music for this particular field as it felt very desolute, which is a solid design choice.

▪️And if its possible to see the turn order of the main cast or some visualization of their speed stat to determine who goes first.

▪️Maps in future iterations would be stellar! I wanted to explore more of the outside of the town map, but the random encounters were quite high, so I did rush to the end. Ate too many slimes, haha.

▪️Adore the victory sfx with the Earthbound-ish.

━━━

 ☆ Dios Castle

▪️Music is back and fits the vibe of exploring a castle, but slights of danger beats in it.

▪️The battle music felt active and fitting while meeting the new enemies, such as the darn liliths attacking so fast!

▪️The OST for the dragon mini-boss was a surprise change in the battle. Felt like it fitted a more overpowering boss.

▪️I enjoyed that some of the mini-bosses had dialogue within the battle to make it more dynamic.

━━━

 ☆ Dios Encounter

▪️The plot twist was a good one from the brief introduction we had in the  beginning.

▪️I always appreciate a "post-scene" that we can interact with the NPCs after the main boss battle to see how the world has changed since then.
